About this tour

A walk through the city center - a part of the city closed for car traffic 20 hours a day. See Akershus Fortress, The Royal Palace, The Parliament Building, The Grand Hotel, The National Theatre and The University.

You will be picked up on the pier and driven to Akershus Fortress – built by King Hakon 5. Magnusson in 1280. From the fortress we have a great view of the Oslo fjord and Aker Brygge, Oslo's main shopping and restaurant area, built in the 1980s.

We´ll walk through the cobblestone pathways inside the fortress area. From the fortress exit we continue to Christiania Market Place, where King Christian 4. after the city fire in 1624 said: "Here we will build our new city." He then commanded the construction of the city, where it was protected by the fortifications. Here you can find Oslo's first town hall. The Christiania part of Oslo is today called "Kvadraturen" – a grid planned area with streets perpendicular to each other and a street width of 12 meters.

We walk 3 blocks north along The Akersgata to Egertorget. Now we are at the top of Oslo's main street, Karl Johans Gate. If you turn your head to the left, you will see The Royal Palace on the horizon - the home of King Harald 5 and Queen Sonja.

We walk towards The Royal Palace and stop in front of The Parliament Building. Here, 169 representatives from all parts of Norway work 9 months a year to govern Norway in the best possible way.

On the other side of the street you will see The Grand Hotel. Here the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize always checks in during his/her stay in Oslo in December. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo City Hall on 10. December every year.

We continue up the street and look at The National Theatre and The University. Then we pop in at The IceBar for refreshments. This bar is built in ice, and where the temperature is -7 degrees.

On the road back to your ship, we walk past The Royal Palace, through a part of The Palace Park, past the State Department and the statue of King Haakon 7. A short walk takes us to the main entrance of Oslo City Hall. From here we go back to the car that will drive you back to the starting point of the trip.
